Transit Kit

Chiang Mai, Thailand – Tonight I’m taking an overnight bus, another bus and some tuk tuks to reach Vientiane, Laos for an extended visa run. It pays to be prepared on these trips.

Transit Kit
for hunger: sweet sesame peanuts and taro sticks
for thirst: bottled water
for clean hands: wet wipes
for potentially unstocked bathrooms: kleenex
for public transit refresher: kaffir limes*
for over-airconditioning: sarong

* A cooking teacher taught me this trick. In case of less-than-pleasant odors, use a fingernail to break the skin of a kaffir lime and breathe in. I’ve also heard that people use the juice as shampoo and a cleaning product.
