Simple Pleasures: Fresh Fried Rice

Khao Pad Muu (Pork Fried Rice)

Bangkok, Thailand – Thai fried rice is nothing like its Chinese-American counterpart, heavy and greasy.   Cooked rice is wok fried with a bit of onion, chinese kale, carrot and a few morsels of pork, seasoned with a healthy shake of white pepper and a squeeze of lime, and served with crisp slices of cucumber.  It’s light, fresh and tasty. I got this plate on Lang Suan where vendors set up shop around lunchtime serving everything from issan specialties like papaya salad and larb (minced pork salad) to krapow muu (pork stir fried with basil) and satay along the eastern side of the street.  The street offers more choices with better flavor and lower prices than the Food Loft, department store Central Chidlom’s disappointing food court just north on Chidlom.
